Institutional Buildings

“Manzana de las Luces” Historic and Cultural Complex*

Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Argentina

“Manzana de las Luces” is one of the main culturally significant complexes in the City of Buenos Aires and houses several of the oldest existing buildings. Below the complex still run tunnels built in colonial times. The tunnels were not part of the project.
The restoration and upgrading project included a preliminary and comprehensive condition survey, comprising extensive field tests and analyses to assess the actual architectural and structural condition of the buildings, their foundations, the impact of traffic and modern urban conditions on the structures, and the associated electrical and plumbing systems. Both buildings have undergone numerous interventions and maintenance efforts over the years. Therefore, it was necessary to identify, in addition to the effects of aging, the pathologies and deteriorations resulting from these interventions to develop the strategy for developing a comprehensive design project.
This project includes selective structural reinforcement, restoration of the exterior envelope -facades, roofing, exterior doors and windows- and the renovation of associated electrical and plumbing systems of the buildings “Ex-Procuraduría” and “Ex-Casas Redituantes”*

 SCOPE OF WORK:
